South Dakota Man Dies in Turkey Bowhunting Accident

On April 16 at 8:48 a.m., authorities received a call to a field near White, South Dakota, for a bowhunting accident. Mark Steinborn, 62, was shot with an arrow while turkey hunting according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. Emergency personnel attempted life saving measures at the scene but were unsuccessful.

Mark Steinborn was a nurse anesthetist who spent the majority of his career at Avera Health in Sioux Falls. His hobbies included golf, pickleball, and most notably, hunting and fishing. “Mark enjoyed all things outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish, and somehow found many hours in his schedule to ‘scout’ spots with his brothers, his sons, and his buddies,” according to Steinborn’s obituary.

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks both declined to comment on the investigation. We’ll bring you more details when they become available.
