Appalachian Bear Hunting with Hounds
In this episode, Clay explores the origins of a hound breed developed in the Southern Appalachian mountains - the Plott Hound. In true Americana fashion, these dogs are named after the Plott family. They’re the only hound breed that didn’t descend from European fox hounds and were bred as bear dogs. Clay visits Roy Clark of East Tennessee to learn about his family’s line of Plott hounds, his philosophy on life, and to go on a bear hunt with the Laurel Mountain Bear Hunters. Mr. Roy is a relic of times passed in Appalachia and is a legend in the bear hunting community.
