00:00:10 Speaker 1: Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where conservation always wins. There is a prize. Meat Eater will donate $ 500 to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing. I'm your host, Randall Williams. And today we're joined by Brody, Jordan, Omar, Corey, Logan, and Giannis. This is a 10-round quiz show with questions from meat eaters for Verticals, loosely, which are hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking. Meat Eater Trivia is brought to you by one of our favorite beers, Bush Light. Bush Light. Head for the mountains. 00:00:47 Speaker 2: Was that pause so that I could ask you why you put me at the bottom of the list? 00:00:51 Speaker 3: Because he was doing it in a circle. 00:00:53 Speaker 4: Which is the order I wish Spencer would do it in because that's how I need to cut the camera. 00:00:56 Speaker 1: It makes a ton of sense for just production purposes. 00:00:58 Speaker 2: So thank you, Randall. I will do that in the future. 00:01:01 Speaker 1: When Spencer is here next time, you should suggest that to him. I don't want to do it because it would seem egotistical, but you should just point out that Randall had a really good way of doing this. 00:01:10 Speaker 3: Spencer plays favorites. 00:01:11 Speaker 1: I don't know where Spencer is right now. I text him earlier. 00:01:13 Speaker 2: Antelope hunting. 00:01:15 Speaker 1: In the snow. Well, today we have an IFAQ. Here's our infrequently asked questions segment. If you have a trivia related question for our crew, send it to trivia at themeateater.com with the subject line IFAQ. Andrew M. asks, if you were buying one rifle, parentheses, cartridge, action, any features you would recommend, close parentheses, To be used for Midwest whitetails and black bear, along with being able to do pronghorn, what would it be and why? Looking to buy my first rifle and want one to be able to cover multiple species would mostly be used for whitetails, but my two other species I hope to harvest would be pronghorn and black bear. And we have Jordan Sillars here. 00:02:02 Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm the expert on this. 00:02:06 Speaker 1: And after we cover the question, Maybe we can do a little plug for what you have going on. 00:02:11 Speaker 5: Oh, sure. 00:02:11 Speaker 1: Let's go around the room here. 00:02:13 Speaker 2: Maybe you should offer up two and we could have sort of a battle. 00:02:16 Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. 00:02:17 Speaker 2: Over the caliber. 00:02:18 Speaker 1: That's an interesting format. 00:02:21 Speaker 3: I think I'd just go with a good quality, not super expensive bolt action. Something like a Model 70 or something like that. And 270 Winchester. 00:02:35 Speaker 2: Old school. 00:02:36 Speaker 1: Old school. 00:02:37 Speaker 3: But it does everything. 00:02:38 Speaker 2: Classic round. Does everything fine. 00:02:39 Speaker 1: Would you have a threaded muzzle on it? 00:02:42 Speaker 2: Definitely. 00:02:42 Speaker 3: Well, these days you have to, right? 00:02:45 Speaker 1: Don't act mad about it. That's neat. 00:02:48 Speaker 3: No, I think pretty much all the new ones come with a threaded barrel. 00:02:52 Speaker 2: Just 20 minutes ago in the car, he was praising shooting with a suppressor. That was as much fun as the sun is having. 00:02:59 Speaker 1: So nice. Jordan, thoughts? 00:03:01 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:03:02 Speaker 1: Bolt action. 00:03:03 Speaker 3: 6.5 Creedmoor. 00:03:06 Speaker 5: I think that's going to serve you well. It's not going to recoil too much. And with a suppressor, very pleasant. Very pleasant to shoot. 00:03:14 Speaker 1: I think it'll shoot itself. 00:03:15 Speaker 5: Yeah, pretty much. 00:03:16 Speaker 1: Hopefully not. Corey, Logan, Omar, let's bat this one around. 6.5 PRC. A little more muscle. 00:03:24 Speaker 2: I like that one. 00:03:24 Speaker 1: How about the. 308? 00:03:25 Speaker 4: Oh, jeez. 00:03:27 Speaker 6: I personally love 6.5 PRCs. One thing I did just learn about that was barrel life. And I didn't realize how, not that I'm like shooting that many rounds, but like something with like a. 308, you have so many more rounds you can shoot through that thing. Like the usable life of that barrel. 00:03:40 Speaker 1: Is- Realistically though, how many rounds do you shoot a year? 40. 00:03:46 Speaker 5: How often do you clean your gun? 00:03:47 Speaker 6: Probably like 200. 00:03:49 Speaker 1: Really? That's better than I thought. I mean, no offense, but that's, yeah. 00:03:54 Speaker 2: That's still way above average. 00:03:57 Speaker 1: Way to go. I find that typically you'll see people say that if you're worried about replacing barrels, you're spending so much money on ammunition and reloading components that the barrel's sort of an afterthought. You really have to, unless you're shooting like a 7mm. 00:04:13 Speaker 2: 338 Norma. 00:04:18 Speaker 1: All right, have we done enough with this one, you guys? 00:04:21 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think this guy knows exactly what to get now. 00:04:23 Speaker 1: I don't think you need to overthink it. I don't think you need to overthink it. Just go real simple. 00:04:27 Speaker 2: That's right. 00:04:28 Speaker 1: Easy to find cartridge. And yeah, learn about bullet construction. Jordan. 00:04:35 Speaker 5: Yes. So I wanted to let everyone know that Blood Trails Season 3 is out now. So Blood Trails, if anyone... hasn't had a chance to listen yet. Um, it's a true crime podcast about hunters and anglers and people outside. So, uh, we cover a different story each episode. We talk with, uh, as many people who were involved as we'll talk with us and, uh, we do a great job putting it together. So, um, yeah, if you haven't had a chance, check it out. First episode should be out now. Um, it's about a kid up in Minnesota who went hunting with some buddies, disappeared, never came back. And, um, They think maybe one of the other kids who was with him. 00:05:20 Speaker 1: Had something to do with it. 00:05:21 Speaker 4: Just in time for spooky season. 00:05:23 Speaker 1: That's right. 00:05:24 Speaker 2: That's right. 00:05:24 Speaker 5: And I'm watching Yanni pass notes over. 00:05:27 Speaker 3: What are you guys passing notes about? 00:05:30 Speaker 1: Yanni says there's a lint ball on my neck. 00:05:32 Speaker 2: Did you get it? 00:05:33 Speaker 1: I don't know. I've been staring at that all day. 00:05:35 Speaker 2: You got it. 00:05:36 Speaker 1: Okay, good. 00:05:37 Speaker 5: I thought it was just an ingrown hair. 00:05:38 Speaker 1: This episode's off to a rough start. 00:05:39 Speaker 2: What did you think? You said they think. Do you think one of the. 00:05:43 Speaker 5: Other kids is being mischievous? 00:05:46 Speaker 4: It's got to be impartial. 00:05:47 Speaker 5: Yeah, it's possible. The reason they are suspicious is because he said some very suspicious things in the days and months after it happened. Things like, I know where he is. 00:05:59 Speaker 7: Oh. 00:06:00 Speaker 5: And he also allegedly had some of the missing boy's possessions. 00:06:06 Speaker 4: Oh. 00:06:06 Speaker 5: This is all allegedly. 00:06:07 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:06:08 Speaker 5: Just to be clear. 00:06:09 Speaker 1: And you also have updates from previous... cases that you've done on the show in this season. 00:06:15 Speaker 2: We do. 00:06:15 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:06:15 Speaker 5: We're going to do in the middle of the season, we're going to do an update episode where we update on anything that's happened in the stories we've covered previously. Um, so, and there are, there are several, uh, we actually were able to get a homicide investigation opened in one of the cases that we covered from season two. 00:06:33 Speaker 1: That's wild. Yeah. 00:06:35 Speaker 5: Well, we were, I mean, I think the family of the victim was very, very happy. 00:06:39 Speaker 2: And yeah, that was the arson, right? 00:06:41 Speaker 1: Yep. 00:06:42 Speaker 2: Yeah, the arson. 00:06:42 Speaker 5: The guy was found in his home. Home had burned down. He was inside. And they never really investigated it as a homicide, even though it should have been. 00:06:52 Speaker 1: Well, that drops this week, right? Yes. The new season drops this week. 00:06:58 Speaker 5: So looking forward to that. Yeah. 00:07:00 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:07:01 Speaker 5: I think people like it. 00:07:03 Speaker 2: Cool. 00:07:03 Speaker 1: Well, the Sydney index for today's episode is five. So the winner might just get a perfect game. With that, we're off to our game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil. Look, I need to know what I stand to win, everything. How's that? You stand to win everything. 00:07:31 Speaker 2: Game on, suckers! 00:07:35 Speaker 1: Question one falls under the category of the cosmos. Polaris, or the North Star, is the brightest star in which of the following constellations? The question is, Polaris, or the North Star, is the brightest star in which of the following constellations? And your options are A, Orion, B, the Northern Cross, C, the Little Dipper, or D, Canis Major. Again, those options are Orion, the North Cross, The Little Dipper or Canis Major? 00:08:16 Speaker 5: I didn't know it was in a constellation. So it's going to be a challenge. 00:08:20 Speaker 1: This is a fun episode for you already. 00:08:22 Speaker 2: Already. 00:08:22 Speaker 1: We're breaking new ground. Omar, did you know this? I feel confident, but. 00:08:30 Speaker 2: Oh, man. 00:08:31 Speaker 5: We'll see. 00:08:33 Speaker 8: This is like all stuff that I studied when I was like. second through fourth grade. We'll see if it's stuck. 00:08:39 Speaker 6: I don't remember any of those things from second to fourth grade. 00:08:42 Speaker 2: I'm changing. 00:08:42 Speaker 1: Johnny's changing. 00:08:43 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:08:43 Speaker 1: I can't stop calling you Johnny. Sorry. Corey's struggling. 00:08:51 Speaker 2: Brody. 00:08:51 Speaker 1: Hard. 00:08:52 Speaker 3: I feel like you're trying to pull a fast one on us. 00:08:54 Speaker 1: I thought you were writing as I was reading the question. I was, but... And then you're just still writing. I thought you had a confident answer. I might just keep writing. Again, Polaris or the North Star... is the brightest star in which of the following constellations? Is it Orion, the Northern Cross, the Little Dipper, or Canis Major? 00:09:22 Speaker 2: By the end of this, I will have written down all of the possible answers, at least one. 00:09:27 Speaker 1: This is good. This is good. 00:09:29 Speaker 2: Wait, so what are these verticals? 00:09:31 Speaker 1: This is the Cosmos. 00:09:33 Speaker 2: No, no, no, but what are the verticals in this? 00:09:35 Speaker 5: Nighttime navigation. 00:09:36 Speaker 3: Randall doesn't limit himself to verticals. 00:09:39 Speaker 1: Oh, I see. 00:09:39 Speaker 2: This is woodsmanship. In general trivia, are you asking? 00:09:42 Speaker 6: No, no, no, I didn't know if these verticals, this seems outside of the normal, you know, for hunting, fishing, conservation. 00:09:48 Speaker 1: If you think this is outside of the verticals, wait till we get further into this game. 00:09:51 Speaker 2: I think this falls in there. I mean, this is navigation. 00:09:54 Speaker 6: It does, but the way he, introduced it was outside of it. 00:09:57 Speaker 1: I think it's fun to read things like the cosmos as a category because categories that we don't repeat are not really categories. 00:10:07 Speaker 2: Yes, that's fun. 00:10:07 Speaker 1: Just one-off categories. All right, everybody has their answers. Let's flip them over. Brody says, the Little Dipper. Jordan says, the Little Dipper. Omar says, Orion. Corey says, the Northern Cross. Logan says the Little Dipper, and Giannis says the Little Dipper. A lot of dippers. The correct answer is C, the Little Dipper or Ursa Minor. 00:10:27 Speaker 3: It's the end of the handle, isn't it? 00:10:30 Speaker 1: To find the North Star, which is visible all year from the Northern Hemisphere, locate the two stars at the end of the Big Dipper's bowl and trace a line about five times that distance beyond them. The North Star is the brightest star in Ursa Minor, also called the Little Dipper or Little Bear. I think it's kind of right in the middle. Is it? I looked at pictures of that this morning when I was double checking this. Yeah. 00:10:55 Speaker 2: Good question. 00:10:56 Speaker 1: Fascinating stuff. 00:10:57 Speaker 4: Yeah. 00:10:57 Speaker 1: Question two. This question is in the category of hunting. A trophy caribou with two brow palmations is said to be a double what? A trophy caribou with two brow palmations is said to be a double what? 00:11:22 Speaker 3: For the longest time, this was my dad's dream animal. 00:11:27 Speaker 2: Did he ever go do it? 00:11:29 Speaker 1: Nope. Omar's got an answer. 00:11:31 Speaker 2: Not going to do it now? 00:11:32 Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Brody must be confident. Giannis is confident. 00:11:36 Speaker 2: I feel pretty confident. 00:11:38 Speaker 1: Corey, I thought this would be right in your wheelhouse. 00:11:41 Speaker 5: It's from a guy from northwest Montana where caribou are native. I've never seen a caribou. 00:11:46 Speaker 3: That's because they're all dead in the lower 48. 00:11:48 Speaker 1: Yeah, right. They're not too, they come back and forth. 00:11:51 Speaker 2: Nope, not anymore. They don't. 00:11:52 Speaker 1: When I was a kid, they did. 00:11:57 Speaker 2: Jordan, do you have an answer? Oh, yes. 00:11:58 Speaker 1: How are you feeling about it? 00:12:01 Speaker 5: You know, we'll see. We'll see. 00:12:04 Speaker 1: I think it's just Corey here. 00:12:05 Speaker 2: Oh, wow. 00:12:06 Speaker 4: Really? 00:12:07 Speaker 1: I'm sorry to do that to you. That's fine. 00:12:09 Speaker 5: Caribou is a fascinating animal. 00:12:12 Speaker 1: All right. Why don't we flip them over here? Brody, shovel. Jordan says whammy. Omar says shovel. Corey says badass. Logan says basket. And Yana says shovel. The correct answer is shovel. A double shovel caribou refers to an antler configuration where a bull caribou develops two broad, flattened, spade-like brow palmations, or shovels, instead of the usual single prominent front shovel. I was going to make a joke here about sheds, like shed antlers, or how shovels are stored in sheds. A double entendre, but I didn't figure that one out. 00:12:49 Speaker 3: If you want to see Double Shovel, watch the Doug Dern caribou episode from season seven. 00:12:58 Speaker 2: He gets one. 00:12:59 Speaker 1: It's one of the first, after I learned what it was, it's one of the first things that I look for when I see a caribou that makes my eyes bulge. Question three. This question comes to us in the category of fishing. What is the name for a stabilizing float attached to the side of a canoe that keeps the boat from capsizing? What is the name for a stabilizing float attached to the side of a canoe that keeps the boat from capsizing? There's some pained expressions in the room. 00:13:41 Speaker 6: I'm curious if, you know, sitting with my back to the screen, I'm wondering if I'm going to get a better score by not looking at the questions as often. If I could just like internally go into my brain. 00:13:51 Speaker 1: There you go. We'll see. 00:13:53 Speaker 5: I have a canoe. 00:13:55 Speaker 1: Yeah. Do you? 00:13:57 Speaker 2: Yes. 00:13:57 Speaker 5: I bought it from a gentleman off Craigslist. 00:14:00 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:14:00 Speaker 5: And he built his own. 00:14:01 Speaker 2: Nice. 00:14:02 Speaker 5: And yeah, he let me keep him. 00:14:04 Speaker 1: That's awesome. 00:14:05 Speaker 2: It's pretty sweet. 00:14:05 Speaker 1: This is something I've always wanted. Yeah. 00:14:08 Speaker 5: I don't know that my answer is right. But I have some at home. 00:14:13 Speaker 2: Jordan, completely unrelated. 00:14:14 Speaker 6: I saw a while you posted about you were making like a walk-in cooler. 00:14:18 Speaker 8: Yes. 00:14:18 Speaker 6: Did you finish that? 00:14:19 Speaker 7: I did. 00:14:20 Speaker 1: Nice. 00:14:20 Speaker 5: That's awesome. 00:14:20 Speaker 2: I'm excited to see. 00:14:21 Speaker 6: You mentioned you're going to do like a write-up on that. 00:14:23 Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll do a full like build article. But yeah, I just put a pig in there for a week. 00:14:28 Speaker 1: Nice. 00:14:28 Speaker 5: Last week. 00:14:29 Speaker 2: Did you do the cool bot method? 00:14:31 Speaker 1: Yep. This guy's got a walk-in cooler and a canoe with these. Whoa. Consider me envious. 00:14:38 Speaker 2: No doubt. 00:14:39 Speaker 4: If there's any cell phones on the table, can we get them on the ground or somewhere else? 00:14:43 Speaker 1: Is everybody, Omar's still got a blank board. I don't think I'm going to get one. 00:14:47 Speaker 2: I could use more time to think about it. 00:14:49 Speaker 1: Yeah, a little more time. A little more time. 00:14:50 Speaker 8: I know they do it like competitively too. And I just, I worked on something last week where I saw it. 00:14:59 Speaker 2: Oh yeah. 00:14:59 Speaker 1: Just drawing a blank. 00:15:00 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:15:04 Speaker 4: For the listeners at home, Brody was in his practically under the table thinking pose for a solid 90 seconds. 00:15:10 Speaker 1: As soon as I read the question, Brody sort of folded in half and Yanni straightened up like he was a puppet being pulled off the stage. It was like he had a string attached to the back of his shirt collar. Just stiffened right up. 00:15:22 Speaker 2: Constantly working on my posture. 00:15:24 Speaker 8: You know. 00:15:25 Speaker 1: It's good. It's good. 00:15:28 Speaker 2: What is that thing called? 00:15:29 Speaker 1: Jeez. Jeez. 00:15:32 Speaker 2: We're giving him too much time here. This is ridiculous. I'm fine to go forward. 00:15:36 Speaker 1: All right. Let's flip him over. Brody says pontoon. Jordan says outrigger. Omar says nothing. Corey says kickstand. Logan says runner. Yanni says outrigger. The correct answer is outrigger. Nicely done. Outrigger canoes originated among Austronesian peoples and were central to the Polynesian and Micronesian voyages that settled the Pacific Islands. Today, they are still used for fishing and travel in places like the Pacific and Southeast Asia, and outrigger canoe paddling is a popular competitive sport in Hawaii. That's exactly what it was. I always wanted... I remember seeing outriggers made from coolers, and guys would build, like, A canoe with two coolers and you could fill them up with things. What was this? 00:16:28 Speaker 2: Bush light, maybe? 00:16:29 Speaker 1: Oh, it was on the internet, man, where all the good stuff is. But I always really wanted that. 00:16:35 Speaker 2: An outrigger, what was tripping me up is that an outrigger is also what an offshore fishing boat uses to get lines off the side of the boat, right? 00:16:44 Speaker 6: Isn't that a downrigger? 00:16:45 Speaker 1: Downrigger. 00:16:46 Speaker 2: No, but downriggers are the ones that actually send them down into the water. Outriggers are the big arms. 00:16:51 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:16:52 Speaker 2: Fly out, right? 00:16:53 Speaker 1: I don't know. I'm not doing a lot of deep sea fishing these days. But it makes sense. 00:17:00 Speaker 5: They kind of do. They both stick out. 00:17:02 Speaker 1: Yeah, they're out on a boom. I think that's what they call that. Question four. This question falls under the category of wildlife. Name two living bear species not native to North America. Name two living bear species... Not native to North America. Brody's got a quick answer. Everybody else is puzzled. Really? 00:17:41 Speaker 7: Yeah. 00:17:42 Speaker 3: Well, yeah, maybe on that second one, I don't know. 00:17:47 Speaker 1: Name two living bear species, not native. to North America. How are you feeling, Yanni? 00:17:55 Speaker 2: Pretty good. 00:17:56 Speaker 1: Good, good. I don't even know what the score is right now. 00:18:00 Speaker 2: It's all right. After question five, we'll get a scoreboard up. 00:18:03 Speaker 1: I know. It's been an exciting few questions here. 00:18:05 Speaker 3: Hopefully, Phil can get the scores right. 00:18:07 Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. Yanni and Brody. 00:18:13 Speaker 2: Has he ever gotten it wrong? 00:18:15 Speaker 1: Corey, how do you feel? 00:18:16 Speaker 2: No, never. 00:18:16 Speaker 1: Your board's down. 00:18:17 Speaker 2: I like bears. 00:18:19 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:18:20 Speaker 2: Feeling good. 00:18:20 Speaker 1: Good, good, good. 00:18:21 Speaker 2: To answer your question. 00:18:23 Speaker 1: Are you good, Omar? I mean, I got something. I don't want to rush you guys. I'm just trying to feel out the room. Keep the banter going. 00:18:31 Speaker 8: I don't know if the second bear that I have, if it's the correct name for it. 00:18:39 Speaker 1: Are we ready to flip them over? All right. Reveal your answers. Brody says panda and sun bear. Jordan says panda and Eurasian black bear. Omar says panda and Japan bear. Corey says panda bear and sun bear. Logan says polar bear and panda bear. Yana says sun bear and panda bear. We have some correct answers in the room. Here's the list. Sloth bear, sun bear, Asiatic black bear, which gives me Pause. I think we give it to Jordan. The giant panda. I think they're also called moon bears. Giant panda and the spectacled bear. Sloth bear, sun bear, Asiatic black bear, giant panda, spectacled bear. 00:19:28 Speaker 4: What was Jordan's answer again? 00:19:29 Speaker 1: Eurasian black bear. Oh, got it. 00:19:32 Speaker 5: Okay. 00:19:33 Speaker 2: I think. 00:19:33 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:19:34 Speaker 2: We'll give it to Jordan. 00:19:36 Speaker 1: Sloth bears are found in India and Sri Lanka. Sun bears are found in Southeast Asia. The Asiatic black bear is found in Asia. giant panda in China and the spectacle bear is South America's only native bear. species, found in the Andes. Hmm. Yeah, that was a fun question. 00:19:54 Speaker 3: Spectacle. 00:19:56 Speaker 1: Question five. This question falls under the category of conservation. In the 1995 film Ace Ventura, When Nature Calls, Ace hides inside a mechanical model of which animal and then emerges from its rear end in a memorable scene? Dang it. 00:20:13 Speaker 2: Great question. I never saw this movie. 00:20:17 Speaker 1: Is there a clip? I'll repeat that. No. In the 1995 film Ace Ventura, When Nature Calls, Ace hides inside a large mechanical model of which animal? and then emerges from its rear end in a memorable scene. 00:20:32 Speaker 2: Oh, classic. 00:20:34 Speaker 1: I thought you'd like this one. 00:20:35 Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a good one. 00:20:40 Speaker 2: Must have not been that memorable. 00:20:42 Speaker 1: I do think Pet Detective's a better film, though. Do you really? 00:20:45 Speaker 5: I do. 00:20:46 Speaker 1: See, I fell in love with When Nature Calls. I feel like Pet Detective's a little edgier. That's why I love it. Jordan's got an answer. 00:21:00 Speaker 2: I gotta guess. 00:21:04 Speaker 1: Yeah, I threatened in an earlier episode, I threatened to do my entire guest-hosted episode as questions about the two Ace Ventura movies, and then I chickened out. But I still liked this one. 00:21:15 Speaker 5: That could be fun with people who've seen those movies. 00:21:18 Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. 00:21:20 Speaker 1: It would be way more... It's also more interesting if you haven't seen it. Yanni, are you gonna get there? 00:21:28 Speaker 2: I mean, I'll pick an animal when I have to. 00:21:31 Speaker 1: I think we're waiting on you and Brody. Keep waiting. Brody's got an answer. Yanni's got an answer. All righty then. 00:21:52 Speaker 9: Flip him over. 00:21:53 Speaker 2: I see what you did there. 00:21:54 Speaker 1: Brody says whale. 00:21:55 Speaker 4: Ah. 00:21:56 Speaker 1: Jordan says cow. Omar says rhino. Corey says rhino. Logan says rhino. Niana says horse. The correct answer is rhino. A horse would be pretty interesting. I've got some lengthy flavor text here. Ace Ventura When Nature Calls is a sequel to 1994's Ace Ventura Pet Detective with Jim Carrey returning as the title character. When the film begins, Ace Ventura is living in a Tibetan monastery after a rescue mission goes wrong when a British emissary named Fulton Greenwall tracks him down and asks for help. A sacred white bat known to the locals as Shikaka has gone missing in Africa and without it, a wedding met to unite two rival tribes cannot proceed. Ace travels to Africa where his unorthodox investigation methods get him in trouble with both tribes. In the meantime, Ace uncovers a scheme by outsiders who want the tribes to go to war. In the end, he recovers the bat and saves the wedding. And this is part of his investigation is when he gets in this rhino. 00:22:49 Speaker 2: Nice. 00:22:50 Speaker 1: It's a great image. It's a great image. 00:22:53 Speaker 5: What's Jim Carrey up to these days? He's lost his marbles. 00:22:58 Speaker 4: Has he though? 00:22:59 Speaker 9: I don't know. 00:23:00 Speaker 6: I feel like he's kind of like gone to this like philosophical route. 00:23:03 Speaker 5: And I, I don't know. 00:23:05 Speaker 6: I watched an episode of him in, Comedians in cars getting coffee, and I feel like he's all there. 00:23:09 Speaker 1: Oh, good. Good to know. Phil, we're now halfway through our game of trivia. Can I have a scoreboard update? 00:23:17 Speaker 2: Yes, you may. 00:23:17 Speaker 1: Wow, what a game. 00:23:18 Speaker 2: It's a pretty close game. 00:23:19 Speaker 7: Yeah, somehow. 00:23:21 Speaker 4: Omar and Corey, as well as Logan, have two points each. Jordan and Brody are tied up in second place with three points, and Giannis is in first place with four. 00:23:33 Speaker 2: Anybody's game. 00:23:34 Speaker 1: Wow. There you go. Exceptional. 00:23:36 Speaker 5: This is the best I've ever done at trivia. 00:23:39 Speaker 1: All right. It's time for our DraftKings question of the week. Thanks to DraftKings for sponsoring today's question of the week. One question, one shot, and a chance to prove you know your stuff. Let's get into it. And this is a bonus question, so it's not going to count towards your final scores. Here's the question. The largest public university in Vermont's athletic teams are named for this eight-letter word, an old New England name for the Cougar. I'll read that again. The largest public university in Vermont's athletic teams are named for this eight-letter word, an old New England name for the Cougar. But this actually has nine letters. It's a nine-letter word. It's a nine-letter word. Somehow that got lost in translation. 00:24:26 Speaker 2: I can edit this on the fly. 00:24:29 Speaker 1: Yeah, don't read too much into it. In no way should this reflect on the sponsor of the question of the week. That's my error. It's a nine-letter word. Brody's got an answer. Yanni's got an answer. 00:24:41 Speaker 3: I've got the answer. 00:24:42 Speaker 1: Brody's got the answer. 00:24:44 Speaker 2: Does this question count in the game? No, it doesn't. 00:24:47 Speaker 1: It's just a bonus. 00:24:48 Speaker 3: I really wish it counted. 00:24:50 Speaker 2: Me too. 00:24:50 Speaker 1: It's a good one. No, I'm good. 00:24:55 Speaker 5: This is great. I like the question of the week. 00:25:01 Speaker 1: Logan's thinking. 00:25:02 Speaker 3: I'll add my own flavor text. 00:25:05 Speaker 1: To this rant. Please do. I don't have any. 00:25:07 Speaker 2: Later. 00:25:08 Speaker 1: Okay. Corey's looking. Omar's looking. Logan's erasing. Jordan's looking. We're not going to get there? I wouldn't wager on me. Give up the answer. Reveal your answers, please. Brody says catamount. And Yanni says catamount. The correct answer is catamount. Thanks again to DraftKings for sponsoring today's questions. Giannis and I used to take out at a place called Catamount in Colorado, and I've seen it other places. 00:26:38 Speaker 1: Well, it might have come out. 00:26:39 Speaker 3: Well, sure. 00:26:39 Speaker 5: I'm just saying. 00:26:40 Speaker 1: It might have originated in New England. I'm sure it did. 00:26:42 Speaker 2: All right. 00:26:44 Speaker 1: I'm not going to say, I'm not going. 00:26:45 Speaker 3: To say you could see that name. You could see it anywhere. 00:26:49 Speaker 1: You could see it anywhere. I rest my case. Question six. This question falls into the category of fishing. What is the name for the woven wicker basket traditionally worn by anglers on a strap over the shoulder or hip used to hold freshly caught fish? 00:27:09 Speaker 2: I'll repeat that question. 00:27:11 Speaker 1: What is the name for the woven wicker basket traditionally worn by anglers on a strap over the shoulder or hip used to hold freshly caught fish? Corey, quick answer. 00:27:24 Speaker 5: Reminds me of a great movie y'all have probably heard of, A River Runs Through It, where they're all rocking one of these. 00:27:29 Speaker 1: Have you ever worn one of these? No. 00:27:32 Speaker 3: They were still around when I was a little kid. 00:27:35 Speaker 2: I never have. 00:27:36 Speaker 1: They sold one at Wal-Mart. Oh, really? When I was growing up. 00:27:40 Speaker 2: Yeah. 00:27:41 Speaker 1: And there's one that they had. It was just like, it wasn't actually wicker. It wasn't a basket. It was a bag. Right. Sort of insulated with drain holes. 00:27:52 Speaker 3: Yeah, and it used to be, like I was told, you would put fresh wet grass in there with the fish to help keep them cool. 00:28:02 Speaker 1: Yanni, you know the answer? 00:28:04 Speaker 2: I do. But yeah, that's one of my favorite scenes from that movie is when The dad. 00:28:10 Speaker 1: Old Tom Skerritt. 00:28:11 Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like, well, the good Lord has blessed us all. It's just that he's been particularly kind to me today. He lays down his big old slab. 00:28:23 Speaker 1: That's great. Jordan and Omar's got an answer. Jordan's drawn a blank here. 00:28:28 Speaker 4: Logan? 00:28:29 Speaker 6: I mean, I don't think it's right, but I've got something written. 00:28:31 Speaker 1: All right. Reveal your answers. Brody says Creel. Jordan without an answer. Omar says Quiver. Corey says creel with a K. We'll accept that. Logan says stringer. Yana says creel. The correct answer is creel. A creel's woven construction allows air to circulate so the fish stays cool and doesn't spoil. The word also gives us creel limit, the legal cap on how many fish an angler may keep, and creel survey, the name for the interviews fisheries biologists conduct with anglers to estimate catch and fishing pressure. 00:29:06 Speaker 2: It's also a great scene when that old boy gets sunburned after going fishing and drinking. 00:29:14 Speaker 1: I liked that guy because he just wanted to fish with worms. 00:29:17 Speaker 2: Yeah. Yes. 00:29:18 Speaker 1: Yes. All right. Question seven. This question falls into the category of gun stuff. 00:29:23 Speaker 5: Yes. 00:29:24 Speaker 1: What six letter term refers to the stacked internal parts of a firearm suppressor that redirect and slow expanding gases to reduce the sound of a gunshot? what six letter refers to the stacked internal parts of a firearm suppressor that redirect and slow expanding gases to reduce the sound of a gunshot? 00:29:50 Speaker 3: It wouldn't be a Randall episode without a gun stuff question. 00:29:54 Speaker 1: Maybe get another one. 00:29:57 Speaker 2: I like these. Yeah, I like gun stuff. These are up my alley. 00:30:00 Speaker 1: Sydney got this one like that. I was quite pleased. 00:30:04 Speaker 2: Quite pleased. 00:30:06 Speaker 3: Hopefully I got this right. 00:30:08 Speaker 6: Cause like a word just came to my mind. 00:30:09 Speaker 3: I'm like, hopefully that's usually that's good. That's your strategy, right? 00:30:13 Speaker 5: You're not looking at the thing. You're just like, yeah, that's right. 00:30:16 Speaker 1: Only thing I don't like about these is cleaning them. Jeez. What a pain. 00:30:23 Speaker 6: Does that change your point of impact pretty significantly? One of my friends just cleaned his suppressor. 00:30:27 Speaker 1: I have to say, I haven't cleaned enough of them to really know. 00:30:30 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:30:30 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:30:30 Speaker 5: I would think not. 00:30:32 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:30:32 Speaker 2: I know. 00:30:33 Speaker 5: Cause it's not supposed to be hitting anything on that, you know, the way through. 00:30:38 Speaker 1: We've all got answers. Let's flip those boards over. Brody says baffle. Jordan says baffle. Omar says muzzle. Corey says baffle. Logan says baffle. Giannis says baffle. The correct answer is baffle. Baffle create, excuse me. Baffles create a series of chambers inside the suppressor that trap the hot high pressure gas leaving the barrel and and release it slowly, which lowers the sound of the shot. They come in several designs, including cone-shaped and flat disc styles, and are commonly made of metals like stainless steel or titanium. That's question seven. 00:31:16 Speaker 2: More baffles, the better. 00:31:17 Speaker 1: Yep. Yep. That's what they say, I think. On to question eight. This question falls into the category of cooking. This Wisconsin-based company founded in 1945 is the top-selling brand of bratwurst in the United States. What is its name? Such a Randall question. I thought maybe we'd had this question, but... I'll read it again. This Wisconsin-based company founded in 1945 is the top-selling brand of bratwurst in the United States. What is its name? 00:31:55 Speaker 2: We ate some of these during my recent... elk hunting trip. 00:31:59 Speaker 1: This reminds me of the live tour. 00:32:01 Speaker 3: I made some wild game brats. 00:32:02 Speaker 1: The live tour will be going on where I'll eat brats. 00:32:05 Speaker 5: Oh, yes. 00:32:05 Speaker 2: We're going to eat a lot of brats. 00:32:06 Speaker 3: I made some wild game brats last year that they just don't compete with these things. 00:32:12 Speaker 1: Yeah. 00:32:13 Speaker 2: It's hard. 00:32:14 Speaker 4: There are like four German brat shops in the street directly behind the Milwaukee theater that the live tour is going to be on. 00:32:21 Speaker 1: Yeah. Tickets are going fast. I will say that. This is a shameless plug. Not scripted, but I think we're close to 90% sold out of all tickets. So if you want tickets, go find them. 00:32:33 Speaker 2: That's awesome, man. 00:32:34 Speaker 1: Des Moines, Iowa is where we folks really need to get after. They're lagging behind. So all you proud Iowans out there. 00:32:46 Speaker 4: Thank you to the multiple people from Michigan who gave me a tiki bar rec in Grand Rapids. 00:32:52 Speaker 1: I will be there. I have a little itinerary document going, Phil. Great. We've all got an answer. 00:32:56 Speaker 2: Hey, you guys going to bring me along? Because I haven't been doing any kind of planning. 00:32:59 Speaker 1: You can do all the stuff. 00:33:00 Speaker 4: Giannis, I'll be mad if you don't come. 00:33:02 Speaker 1: Okay, perfect, Phil. Corey? 00:33:05 Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm worried you're going to be mad at me. 00:33:08 Speaker 1: I'm worried that you're doing so poorly. 00:33:10 Speaker 3: I'm actually having a pretty nice comeback. 00:33:13 Speaker 2: I just need other people to fall apart. 00:33:14 Speaker 1: Flip those boards over. Brody says Johnsonville. Jordan says Oscar Mayer. Omar says ballpark. Corey says ballpark. Logan says Johnsonville. Yana says Johnsonville. 00:33:24 Speaker 3: It was there. 00:33:25 Speaker 1: The correct answer is Johnsonville. The brand takes its name from the hometown of its founders, Ralph and Alice Steyer. While their sausages were initially only available to Wisconsinites, Johnsonville increased its sales 20-fold in the 1980s and expanded distribution nationwide. It remains privately owned, and Johnsonville sausages can be purchased in more than 45 countries. 00:33:50 Speaker 2: Wow. 00:33:52 Speaker 1: I spent some time on their website today. And let me tell you, it makes me feel good about eating Johnsonville brats. 00:33:58 Speaker 2: That's still only a quarter of the countries that Kiwi shoe polish can be found in. 00:34:03 Speaker 1: Wow, you mind like a steel trap. Phil, we've got two questions left in our game of trivia. How's that scoreboard looking? 00:34:10 Speaker 4: Sounds like Yanni's holding a grudge from his shoe polish question. Got a little bit more of a spread now going on. Omar's in the back of the train with two points. We've got Jordan, Logan, and Corey tied up with four. 00:34:25 Speaker 2: Brody has six. 00:34:27 Speaker 4: Giannis still in first with seven now. 00:34:30 Speaker 2: Oh, if I can feel Brody's nipping, nipping. 00:34:36 Speaker 5: Oh, boy. 00:34:36 Speaker 1: Question nine. This question falls under the category of gun stuff. In the realm of handguns, What does the abbreviation S-A-O stand for? 00:34:50 Speaker 5: Oh. 00:34:51 Speaker 1: In the realm of handguns, what does the abbreviation S-A-O stand for? 00:35:02 Speaker 2: It's an abbreviation, not an acronym. 00:35:05 Speaker 1: Oh, goodness gracious. It's an acronym. 00:35:09 Speaker 4: Hmm. 00:35:10 Speaker 1: Let's change that. Sorry for this hastily prepared. I forgot to bring my computer home last night. 00:35:16 Speaker 2: Ah, when you had to go home to fix your dishwasher. Yeah. 00:35:18 Speaker 1: Yeah. I had a big stack of books that I was carrying and I put them on my desk and forgot that my computer was under them. So this episode was hastily prepared this morning. 00:35:28 Speaker 2: Quite fine with me. I'm enjoying myself. 00:35:30 Speaker 1: Thanks for pointing that out. I knew it. 00:35:31 Speaker 5: I knew what you meant. 00:35:32 Speaker 1: Thanks for pointing that out. Yes. What does the acronym S-A-O stand for? What does the acronym SAO stand for in the realm of hand gunnery. The dishwasher is not fixed. I just ordered replacement parts. All the stuff that bent. 00:35:56 Speaker 2: Well, that's nice to know that there is such a thing as replacement parts for those. I just figured you'd have to buy a new dishwasher. 00:36:04 Speaker 1: No, not at the dishwasher price dishwashers are going for. 00:36:08 Speaker 5: Did you scare your dog when you went down? 00:36:12 Speaker 1: Geez, I'm bad luck with all kinds of... No, I don't really remember anyone's reaction. Truthfully, when I hit the floor, my face was pointing down, so I didn't really see anybody else's reaction. We've got one... I didn't take note, Jordan, but I assume that you wrote this one down fairly quickly and you feel confident. 00:36:35 Speaker 5: I feel fairly confident, though I don't know that I've seen this term as an acronym. very much. So it is possible I'm totally off base, but I think I got it. 00:36:48 Speaker 1: Corey? Yeah, we'll see. 00:36:51 Speaker 5: Doesn't really matter at this point. Because I got Johnsonville wrong. 00:36:56 Speaker 1: That's true, yeah. 00:36:57 Speaker 5: Though you wrote it down, I saw. 00:36:58 Speaker 1: I did, I did. 00:37:00 Speaker 5: Ballparks aren't really Bratwurst, are they? No. 00:37:04 Speaker 1: Felt right. They're all good. 00:37:06 Speaker 2: Brody and Giannis still. 00:37:12 Speaker 1: Chewing. Logan, you've got an answer? 00:37:14 Speaker 6: I've got an answer. I don't think it's right. 00:37:16 Speaker 1: Omar, are you still working there? 00:37:18 Speaker 8: I think I'm going to put the cap on the marker. I don't got any pants really working for me. 00:37:22 Speaker 6: Man. 00:37:24 Speaker 1: You got a guess for it, bud. You're leaving a lot of blank. There's no points for leaving a blank board. 00:37:31 Speaker 2: Let's see. 00:37:32 Speaker 1: All right. Let's write down something crazy. Yanni, how are you? 00:37:37 Speaker 2: Not great. Not great. 00:37:39 Speaker 8: Uh-oh. 00:37:42 Speaker 2: Yeah, you just let me know because I'm just trying to think of words. 00:37:45 Speaker 1: I'm going to look at Brody. 00:37:47 Speaker 2: Let's start with O. 00:37:49 Speaker 1: Let him go. 00:37:49 Speaker 2: Let him go. 00:37:51 Speaker 3: Let him go for a minute. I don't want to be accused of influencing the outcome of the game. 00:38:02 Speaker 1: Sydney also got this one. Really? Well, I counted it. She got two of them right. 00:38:10 Speaker 4: That's how many I got. 00:38:11 Speaker 2: That's it. 00:38:13 Speaker 5: Does that count for us, then? 00:38:14 Speaker 4: No. 00:38:15 Speaker 2: No, not at all. 00:38:21 Speaker 1: The clock on the scoreboard is ticking. 00:38:23 Speaker 2: All right. 00:38:28 Speaker 1: All right. Flip them over. Brody says semi-automatic only. Jordan says single action only. Omar says semi-automatic offset. Corey says safety always off. Logan says shooter assisting optics. Yanni says shiny auto operator. We have a correct answer in the room. The correct answer is single action only. I should get it too. 00:38:53 Speaker 2: Good job. 00:38:54 Speaker 1: In a single action only handgun, the trigger performs one function, releasing the hammer or striker. The shooter must cock it first, either by hand or on a semi-automatic by slide cycling The classic example is the 1911 pistol. You'll see D-A-S-A. It's a double action, single action. So the first shot is a double action. And then you'll see S-A-O. 00:39:21 Speaker 5: Or your classic cowboy revolver. 00:39:24 Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, like a single-action revolver. 00:39:26 Speaker 5: Yeah. 00:39:29 Speaker 1: All right, guys. Well, that was an exciting question. 00:39:31 Speaker 2: That didn't change anything. That was a good question. 00:39:33 Speaker 1: Now, before we move on to our final question, here's a quick recap of our answers so far. Question one, C, Little Dipper. 00:39:41 Speaker 2: Two, Shovel. 00:39:43 Speaker 1: Three, Outrigger. Four, Slothbear Sunbear. Asiatic black bear, giant panda, spectacled bear. Question five, rhino. Question six, creel. Question seven, baffle. Question eight, Johnsonville. Question nine, single action only. Question 10. This question is under the category of fishing. Of course it is. In what 2008 film does Dale ask Derek if Benita Fisher Bigg to which Derek replies that they are, quote, what's called a trophy fish, so, uh, yeah, they're pretty big. I'll repeat the question. 00:40:23 Speaker 2: It's gotta be a movie? Come on, Randall. 00:40:26 Speaker 1: In what 2008 film does Dale ask Derek if, quote, bonita fish are big, to which Derek replies that they are, quote, what's called a trophy fish, so, uh, yeah, they're pretty big. What does his dad say? I don't want to... Let's not give too much away here. 00:40:53 Speaker 2: 2008 film. 00:40:55 Speaker 1: Dale asks Derek if Bonita fish are big. To which Derek replies that they are, quote, what's called a trophy fish. So, yeah, they're pretty big. Boy, the The back end of the table is happy and confident and all smiles. And our Gen Xers here at the front are. 00:41:19 Speaker 2: They got the other movie answer as well, which makes me think maybe they should be watching less television. 00:41:26 Speaker 1: That's right. 00:41:28 Speaker 2: Get out in the woods more. 00:41:29 Speaker 8: I'm sorry, I was born in the city. 00:41:34 Speaker 1: Can't live in the woods. Cory's just a well-rounded individual. 00:41:38 Speaker 2: Dale and Derek, huh? 00:41:41 Speaker 6: Yeah. 00:41:42 Speaker 8: Derek hasn't had a carb since 08. 00:41:47 Speaker 1: In what 2008 film does Dale ask Derek if Bonita fish are big? To which Derek replies that they are, quote, what's called a trophy fish. So, yeah, they're pretty big. 00:42:03 Speaker 10: You like that line it's a great line and just one for the audience we're gonna be we're gonna watch a clip from this movie uh you're not gonna see it it's just gonna be us in the room and then we're gonna it's gonna cut immediately back to us i'm sure full of smiles. 00:42:17 Speaker 1: Yeah the powers that be on the internet won't let us play this for our for our lovely audience so i would encourage. 00:42:23 Speaker 2: You to just look it up i don't have i don't have an answer. 00:42:27 Speaker 1: Chuckle brody's Brody's got his answer. Jordan's blank. Yanni's blank. 00:42:32 Speaker 3: I have an answer. 00:42:34 Speaker 1: Let's flip them over, team. Brody says Tucker and Dale versus evil. Omar says stepbrothers. Corey says stepbrothers. Logan says without a paddle. Yanni's blank. Correct answer is stepbrothers. In the film, Derek explains that he wasn't able to attend his mother's wedding to Dale's father because he was fishing in the southern part of the Gulf with Mark Cuban, Jeff Probst, Paul Daughtry, and super chef Bobby Flay. It was insane, he says. It was almost too much. Have you guys been down to the southern part of the Gulf when the Bonita run? It's gorgeous. Play the clip, Phil. God damn it, Dale. Sorry, my flavor text was wrong. It's Chris Daughtry, not Paul Daughtry. I just think of Daughtry. All right, well, that's question 10. So, Phil, can we have a scoreboard update here? 00:43:30 Speaker 4: Giannis wins with seven points. 00:43:33 Speaker 1: Hey! Today's winner is Giannis Petelis with seven points. To which worthy cause would you like to donate your $ 500 prize? 00:43:44 Speaker 2: Uh, let's give it to, um, the Colorado's Coloradans for responsible wildlife management. 00:43:54 Speaker 1: Yes. 00:43:54 Speaker 2: They have an amendment on the ballot on November 3rd to, uh, make a, uh, make hunting and fishing a constitutional right in the state. And, um, From the research I've been doing and the educating I've been doing, the antis are doing a really good job of putting out the propaganda to make people believe that this isn't a good thing. And then somehow there's actually hunters and anglers possibly for not having it a constitutional right in the Colorado Constitution. So anyways, if you're in Colorado, go and talk to somebody about why this is a good thing. Vote for 83. 00:44:34 Speaker 1: Go to SaveTheHuntColorado.com for more information.
