MeatEater Glossary: Scrape

Scrape /skrāp/
noun
A whitetail deer communication hub indicated by a scratched up oval of dirt and overhanging branch. A location that is checked often by deer to see who is in the area, especially in the rut.

Kenyon: “The bucks pee on their tarsal glands over a scrape to leave their scent for other deer to smell.”
