Chef’s notes

We’re stoked to introduce theMeatEater Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This stuff is damn good on its own (trust us, we know), but it can also create one hell of a mixed drink. We’ll be sharing some of our favorite recipes with you this fall.

First up, we’ve got the Meathattan. We took this classic cocktail and put our MeatEater spin on it by infusing the whiskey with wild game bacon. It’s a drink for wild game enthusiasts, created by wild game enthusiasts.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. MeatEater Whiskey, bacon-infused
  • 1 oz. sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel
  • Maraschino cherry
  • Ice

Special equipment

Stirring glass, strainer

Preparation

  1. To create the bacon-infused whiskey, soak a few slices of cooked bacon in a glass of whiskey. I used wild game bacon and drowned it in the whiskey for a week.
  2. Add the bacon-infused MeatEater Whiskey, sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters, and ice to a stirring glass. Stir the drink for 20 seconds. Strain the cocktail into a glass so that the drink is separated from the ice.
  3. Cut an orange peel and twist it, releasing the oils. Wipe it on the inside of the rim of the glass.
  4. Serve with a maraschino cherry.
