Karl's enjoyment of the outdoors, and his training and career as a wildlife ecologist are byproducts of a feral childhood spent in rural northern Michigan. He, his bride, and their bird dogs moved west in 2011 looking for a higher ratio of wild land to human population, and hoping to contribute to the conservation cause as much as they benefit from it.
