Mentors, Mauka to Makai

Kimi Werner was trained in spearfishing by mentors, Kalei Fernandez and Andy Tamasese 18 years ago. Today she meets up with Kalei and Andy again for a long overdue reunion, but rather than start with spearfishing together, Andy and Kalei take Kimi bowhunting for sheep. She is an apprentice all over again as she learns the ropes of hunting on land. After a crazy adventure on the mountain filled with success and failures, the three friends head to the ocean for some blue water and reef diving. In Hawaii, the term "Mauka to Makai" means from the mountain to the ocean, and learning the art of harvesting from both ecosystems from her original mentors, inspires some beautifully made meals and more fun loving memories.
