Video: How to Clean and Oil a Semi-Auto Shotgun

Keeping your shotgun clean is an integral part of waterfowl hunting. Whether you’re mucking through marshes or hunkered down in the blind during a blizzard, your gun is going to get dirty. Here are a few tips to keep your inertia shotgun cycling all season long.

After disassembling your gun, use Break Free CLP to wipe down all surfaces and remove any debris like gunpowder, mud, and salt. If needed, wrap your rag around a screwdriver to get in hard-to-reach nooks and crannies, and be sure to pay close attention to the back end and insides of the receiver.

Once everything is cleaned up, spray a small amount of Hoppe’s No. 9 Dry Lube on the bolt, allow it to dry, and wipe off the excess with a clean, dry rag. Reassemble your gun and test the bolt. It should be very quick and responsive and keep you firing away even on the coldest days of the season.
